2025 Vesak celebration


Dear Dhamma Friends,

Buddhists worldwide celebrate Vesak to commemorate the Buddha's birth, enlightenment, and passing. The New Jersey Buddhist Vihara plans to celebrate this most sacred day on Sunday, May 11th, 2025. You are all invited to take part in the various religious activities conducted (in Sinhala medium) throughout the day.

Below is the Vesak Day agenda.

08:00 am- 09.00 am: Observance of Sil (eight precepts) and Buddha Vandana
09:00: am: 10.00am: Dhamma talk.
10:00 am- 11:00 am: Guided Meditation session.
11:00: am :11.30 am: Budda Puja
11.30 am-1.00 pm: Dana/lunch for the monks and others
1:00 pm- pm:01:45 pm: Walking Meditation
01:45 pm- 02.45 pm: Dhamma Talk
02:45 pm- 03:00 pm: Tea break
03.00 pm- 04.00:pm: Sutta Discussion
04.00 pm- 04:15 pm: Conclusion with the observation of the five precepts
04.15 pm- 05.00 pm: Public meeting
05.00 pm- 06.00:pm: Bakthi Gee
06.00: pm: 08.00:pm: Dansela (දන්සැල)

Please complete the sil sign-up sheet by May 7th if you are planning on observing sil so that we can get an accurate headcount for Dana.

Please sponsor a dhamma discussion or any other item on the agenda in the name of your departed relatives to receive merit. The temple is specifically looking for an individual or a group who can provide the dana (lunch) for the monks and the devotees who observe Sil on Vesak day.

Please bring all food for Dana by 10 a.m., and for Dansela by 5.00 pm.
